The Virunga volcanoes, shared by Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo, are home to the Mgahinga gorilla national park. It’s the smallest of Uganda’s national parks, yet it’s jam-packed with fun activities for any outdoor lover. You will be able to enjoy the park’s grandeur on this gorilla trekking and golden monkey trekking safari. You may opt to prolong your stay if you want to hike any of the Volcanoes, such as Sabyinyo, Gahinga, or Muhavura. Each of these Volcanoes takes a day to trek to the peak. You may also prolong your stay if you wish to go on the Batwa path in the park, which will show you how the Batwa people lived and coexisted with the area’s wild creatures.
Day 1: Transfer to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park in Kisoro.
After breakfast, your driver guide will transport you to Kisoro, Uganda, which is located at the foot of the Virunga Volcanoes. Enjoy the twisting roads of the “thousand hills” as well as the breathtaking vistas of the volcanoes. Depending on when you arrive, you will have some free time to prepare for the trekking and hiking that will take place in the days ahead.
Day 2: Trekking with gorillas in Mgahinga Gorilla National Park
Mgahinga Gorilla National Park was established in order to safeguard endangered mountain gorillas and golden monkeys, as well as other species. Today you will be transported to the park’s briefing point to learn how to behave and interact with gorillas in the wild. The ranger guide will then bring you inside the park to begin your gorilla journey. After traveling a short distance, depending on the gorillas’ position, you will be able to see them and spend up to an hour with them, watching them interact with one another and taking part in their feeding and napping rituals.
After your one-hour encounter with the gorillas, you’ll begin your return journey to the briefing site and, eventually, your lodge. Even while you take in the gorgeous surroundings in his region, the experience of being in the jungle and encountering these big monsters will stick with you for the rest of your life. Please keep in mind that since Mgahinga Gorilla National Park is located in the Volcanoes, you must be reasonably fit in order to appreciate the trip.
Day 3: Trekking with Golden Monkeys in Mgahinga Gorilla National Park
After an early breakfast this morning, your driver guide will transport you to the briefing location where the golden monkey trekking will begin. You’ll have a briefing from the ranger guide, much like the day before, who will tell you what to anticipate when hunting for golden monkeys in the Virunga volcanoes. You will then begin your journey up in quest of the golden monkeys, which can only be found in the Virunga hills of Uganda, Rwanda, and Congo. Porters are available for those who are interested, and an enforcement officer will accompany you to assist in the event that you encounter hazardous wild buffaloes or elephants. Unlike gorillas, golden monkeys move quickly, and you will be able to track them while they eat. Bamboo shoots, as well as fruits, plants, and even insects, are among their favorite diets.
You have just one hour with the golden monkeys before returning to the starting place and continuing your trip to your resort or any other activity you have planned for the day.
Day 4: Departure from Rwanda via Kigali
We hope you had a wonderful time touring Mgahinga Gorilla National Park. After breakfast this morning, your driver guide will transport you to Kigali city, where you will board your flight home. Thank you for joining us in Uganda.
