UGANDA GORILLA TREKKING INFO
Preparation for Uganda gorilla trekking safaris
Gorilla trekking can be physically exhausting and requires a level of fitness. You should start planning some months ahead of time.
The difficulty level will be determined by the groups you are assigned to. Pregnant women and the elderly are placed in close proximity to one another. If you do not obey the rules, gorilla trekking can become dangerous. If you offend a gorilla, it can attack you, but there are many ways to survive a gorilla attack.
Your safety is largely determined by how strictly you adhere to the rules and regulations. Gorilla trekking is best done during the dry months of the year.
Hiking is much better during the dry months than it is during the rainy months.
The paths leading to the woods are dusty and slick. If you want to see gorillas in Uganda during the best months of the year, think July, August, December, and February. The experience of gorilla trekking in Bwindi is highly recommended.
If possible, combine several treks in various parts of the park for a more unique and varied experience. The cost of a tour is determined by the length of your journey, degree of comfort, and other factors. We offer a variety of reasonably priced expeditions.
Uganda Travel Highlights & Destinations
Murchison Falls National Park is a beautiful sight: Thousands of tourists visit each year to see Uganda’s most popular natural attraction, the thunderous Murchison falls (Kabalega falls). These falls, located in Murchison Falls National Park in northwestern Uganda, are probably the most powerful waterfalls on the planet.
It is one of the most beautiful uganda travel highlights you will ever see. Visitors to the park will take a boat ride to the bottom of the falls for a direct view of the devil’s cauldron, where massive amounts of water squeeze through a seven-meter gorge to get through the rock. Crocodiles, hippos, elephants, warthogs, and waterbucks are among the wildlife species that inhabit the river’s shallow ends and banks.
Murchison Falls should be included in your gorilla and wildlife safaris in Uganda.
MORE ABOUT GORILLA TREKKING FROM KIGALI
Mountain gorilla trekking: Bwindi is listed in almost every Uganda gorilla trekking review as the trip’s highlight.
Mountain gorillas are only present in three African countries: Uganda, Rwanda, and the Democratic Republic of Congo. They live deep in the impenetrable forests of Bwindi in the Virunga ranges. Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is the best spot in Uganda to go gorilla trekking. Mountain gorillas are a critically endangered species, with just around 1000 gorillas left in the wild.
About 600 gorillas live in Uganda’s Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, accounting for about a quarter of the world’s population of these mighty apes. Nothing beats watching a baby gorilla leap from one tree limb to the next or witnessing the family’s bonding.
We offer a couple of Uganda gorilla trekking tours that will help you make this a reality.
In Queen Elizabeth National Park, there are tree climbing lions. The majority of Uganda travel reviews suggest seeing the tree climbing lions. Only Queen Elizabeth National Park and Lake Manyara National Park in Tanzania are home to these lions. There is nothing like it anywhere else on the globe.
The tree climbing lions of Queen Elizabeth National Park’s Ishasha sector are one of Uganda’s most unique attractions. Tourists can visit the park at any time of year.
Yes, we’ve seen lions in zoos and wildlife centers, but the lions at Ishasha are the only ones we’ve seen that climb trees.
This activity is included in the majority of our Uganda vacation packages. Travelers are still fascinated by sightings of lions lying in the massive branches of fig trees.
Other wildlife species seen in the park include buffaloes, waterbucks, elephants, tigers, Orbis, hyenas, Uganda Kobs, and others.
We are one of the best travel agencies in Uganda, and we can arrange a once-in-a-lifetime encounter with these lions for you.
Chimpanzee trekking.
Uganda is purely a primate country. There isn’t a single national park in the United States where visitors won’t see at least a Vervet monkey or an olive baboon. However, when it comes to large primates, Uganda is home to over 1400 chimps, with around 1000 of them living in Kibale Forest National Park, making it the “primate capital of the world.”
Even though there are other places in Uganda to track chimps, such as the Kyambura gorge, Budongo forest, and Kalinzu forest, Kibale forest national park stands out for its unrivaled chimp population.
Primates are a highlight of our Uganda tours and holiday packages.
Following the chimps (man’s closest forest cousins) and watching them go about their everyday lives is a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
Experience the legendary Source of River Nile in Jinja. The Nile is one of Uganda’s most unique travel destinations. The Nile River is Africa’s longest river, starting in Egypt and flowing through Egypt, Ethiopia, South Sudan, and Uganda.
Thousands of visitors flock to the country to see the exact spot where the Nile River begins, where the Nile waters break from Lake Victoria. Standing at the Nile’s source allows visitors to follow in the footsteps of famous explorer John Speke, who was the first to find it.
The Nile’s source is in Jinja, East Africa’s adventure city, which is just two hours from Uganda’s capital, Kampala.
Make sure to include this in your Uganda vacation packages.
Joining a holiday travel group to Uganda
The east and northeastern regions guarantee views of the Nile’s source, Africa’s longest river, Kidepo Valley National Park, Africa’s only true wilderness, Sipi Falls, and a plethora of other extraordinary features that are off the beaten path but equally impressive.

Reservations for Bwindi Impenetrable Forest Gorilla Trekking from Kigali
Gorilla trekking is subject to terms and conditions in Uganda, Rwanda, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Before booking a gorilla tour to Africa, travelers are often advised to read, read, and read again the terms of gorilla trekking. All gorilla parks, including Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park, Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, Virunga National Park, and Volcanoes National Park, use words that are nearly identical.
Before any confirmation is made, each tour company should have an up-to-date list of gorilla trekking terms and conditions to send to travelers. Any traveler who goes on to confirm any gorilla safari to Uganda, Rwanda, or the Democratic Republic of the Congo appears to have read, understood, and agreed to the gorilla trekking terms and conditions. Every travel company has its own set of terms and conditions that govern its operations in addition to the general terms and conditions. You should be aware of these as well. The following are the terms and conditions for gorilla trekking in Africa:
Trekkers under the age of 15 are not permitted.
Mountain gorilla trekking is only permitted in Uganda, Rwanda, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo for people aged 15 and up. Those under the age of 15 are also not permitted to trek the endangered gorillas, even though they seem mature. The strenuous nature of the experience, which entails hiking up and down hill through jungle forests, is the main explanation for the age limit in gorilla trekking. It is feared that children would not follow the trekking rules and regulations, such as maintaining a seven-meter distance and remaining silent in the presence of gorillas. Another explanation for the age restriction is that gorillas are endangered.
During the booking process, travelers are required to include their passports in order to validate their age. However, if a traveler is approaching his or her 15th birthday, he or she will be permitted to trek. However, the child’s parents are required to write a letter to the Uganda Wildlife Authority in Uganda or the Rwanda Development Board in Rwanda. The parents of a child agree and accept full responsibility for whatever happens to the child during the trek in this letter. If something bad happens to the child during the hike, such as a leg rapture, the park management will not be held liable.
A Trekking gorilla permit.
A gorilla permit is required for anyone visiting the critically endangered gorillas in Uganda, Rwanda, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. YES, a gorilla permit is required to trek gorillas; without one, no one would be able to see these endangered gorillas. Travelers should also first confirm the availability of gorilla permits in the desired gorilla park on the desired date. The cost of a gorilla permit varies by region. Rwanda appears to sell the most gorilla permits, at 1500 each.
This fee is charged by those interested in visiting these endangered species, including Rwandans. The Democratic Republic of the Congo provides gorilla permits for $450 for foreign non-residents and $400 for foreign residents, while Uganda charges $700 for foreign non-residents, $600 for foreign residents, and UGX 250,000 for Ugandans and East African citizens. The Congo is becoming the safest and most affordable gorilla destination for budget travelers.
Booking a Gorilla Permit for your Gorilla trekking from Kigali
Booking gorilla permits at least 3 months before the trek date is recommended. Travelers are required to pay a 30% deposit fee, in which the permit is withdrawn from the list of available gorilla permits. This is valid for Uganda, Rwanda, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Payment in full is expected 45 days before the trek date. After 45 days of not paying to zero balance, a gorilla permit is resold, and the traveler loses it without a refund. A gorilla permit can be purchased with a credit card, a bank transfer, or cash, depending on the convenience of the traveler.
Cancellation policy for gorilla permits
If you want to cancel a gorilla permit, make sure you understand the termination policy to prevent any regrets or losses. Gorilla licenses are non-refundable in every way. However, rescheduling to a later date is possible at a small fee. Travelers are urged to avoid cancellations in order to avoid these needless losses of large sums of money.
An orangutan The government owns the permit.
Even after paying to zero balance, a traveler never owns a gorilla permit. A gorilla permit is the property of the government agency in charge of gorilla tourism and conservation. Travelers are required to resubmit gorilla permits to park rangers at the end of each trekking day. As a result, no traveler with a gorilla permit is permitted to trek into the jungle. A gorilla permit, on the other hand, comes with a receipt that indicates the traveler’s name and the area where he or she is trekking, in the case of Bwindi Forest. This receipt is what a traveler holds as proof that he or she paid. Before confirming any gorilla safari, it is important to have a thorough understanding of the terms and conditions of gorilla trekking. To avoid disappointment, contact your trusted travel agency or government body for more details.
What do you carry on your Bwindi gorilla tour from Kigali?
What to pack for a Uganda gorilla tour is a common question asked when booking a gorilla safari in Uganda, Rwanda, or the Democratic Republic of the Congo. After booking a gorilla safari and paying for the journey, a traveler’s next question is what to pack for gorilla trekking from Kigali. Carrying the proper Uganda gorilla trekking gear ensures a stress-free, quiet, and enjoyable mountain gorilla experience. Mountain gorilla trekking from Kigali, though a memorable experience, is a strenuous adventure that requires hiking up and down hill. In your quest for the endangered gorillas, you can stumble, pant, sweat, and become exhausted in the forest. Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, Mgahinga Gorilla Park, Virunga National Park, and Volcanoes National Park are home to the gentle giants. Your gorilla trekking packing list should include the following items:
Hiking boots or shoes Waterproof and light hiking boots/shoes should be at the top of your packing list. You’ll need these shoes to make your way through the jungle in search of gorillas easier. These shoes should be closed to protect your sensitive feet from injury. Hiking boots make it easier to move through slick and muddy forest terrain, particularly during the rainy season. The hiking boots, on the other hand, should be dark in color and not too fresh. Plastic hiking boots are available for hire at the respective park headquarters in Uganda, Rwanda, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo for those who do not have their own shoes.
Gardening gloves Garden gloves are needed for your sensitive hands. Garden gloves will keep your hands secure as you hit the ground and grasp tree stems for support. These gloves will also keep you safe from insect bites and thorny bushes.
A raincoat. The weather in the woods is unpredictable! Rain will fall at any time of day, regardless of season. As a result, you can take a rain jacket with you in case it rains. The rain jacket should be waterproof, compact, and long enough to cover your whole body from head to toe.
Clothes. Make an effort to bring enough clothing for your gorilla trekking adventure in Uganda, Rwanda, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Long-sleeved shirts/blouses are recommended for gorilla trekking to shield your arms from scratching from thorny bushes and insect bites. Long pants are also required to protect your legs from thorny bushes. To be safe, tuck your trousers into your stockings. Sweaters and a scarf are also recommended for your gorilla trek.
Repellents for insects. To protect yourself from insect bites, which can be toxic at times, you should use an insect repellant. Apply the repellant prior to the start of the trek to ensure your safety.
Snacks that provide energy. You’re not sure how long you’ll be in the jungle until encountering the gentle giants. As a result, you can bring energy-giving snacks with you to keep you going during the trek. Snacks may include yellow bananas, boiled eggs, vegetables, and easy eats to keep you going. Gorilla trekking takes between 2 and 6 hours and requires a lot of resources.
Extra phone and video batteries. Nothing is more disappointing than a battery dying when you get close to the endangered gorillas. This is the most dreadful experience you will ever have. Bring extra batteries for your phone and camera to prevent this, and you’ll be fine. After the trek, you just have photos and videos to show for it. As a result, you’ll need a fully charged camera to capture as many photos and live videos as possible for storage.
Hat and sunglasses are optional. You’ll need a hat to keep the sun off your hair and face. A hat protects the hair from bird droppings and dry tree leaves that fall from trees. Sunglasses are often needed to protect your eyes from insects and direct sunlight.
The Walking Stick. A walking stick makes it easier to travel around the jungle. It provides help as you hike through slick terrain that can be challenging at times. You can borrow a walking stick from your hotel and return it at the end of your journey. Alternatively, you can rent a walking stick from the park headquarters for a lower fee. A porter is required to transport your luggage to and from the jungle. Porters are locals, some of whom were once poachers. Hiring a porter would cost you between $15 and $20.
